At Samaya®, we strongly believe in the power of storytelling. It inspires our choices of outings, climbs, bivouacs, trips and ends up indirectly changing our lives. At this atypical end of the year, as the cold sets in and the snow sparkles, a completely different relationship to the mountains is emerging. We are keen to share this new vision of the mountain with you through a series of chronicles. Let yourself be guided to reclaim the present moment by looking up, towards this place that we like so much, towards this unique place where the ground stops to meet the starry sky.

CHAPTER 1: DREAMING ABOUT IT

One of the peculiarities of mountaineering is the dream that precedes the action.

As Gaston Rébuffat said: “The mountaineer is a man who leads his body where, one day, his eyes looked. ". This quote is inspiring and applies to all enthusiasts looking to reconnect with nature. She invites us to raise our heads and go towards what makes us dream.

But what happens between the reading of a story, the contemplation of a mountain and the moment when we find ourselves in these places so dear, so desired, to carefully prepare a platform to establish our shelter there? for one or more nights?

Even the greatest of winter achievements is born from a desire, which matures into a project, into actions and finally after a while into destiny.

This genesis of the dream to its realization often turns out to be very personal and constitutes in itself an ascent. The journey that separates this dream from its fulfillment is not without effort. This requires passion, willpower and therefore preparation with suitable equipment.

If there is only one step from desire to project, you still have to take it.

If it is eminently attractive and bewitching in this season, the mountain can also prove to be inhospitable. Preparation is therefore decisive and also requires excellent self-knowledge, both physically and mentally.

The writer and philosopher Gustave Thibon recalled at leisure that “being in the wind is a dead leaf ambition”. To fully experience your ascent, it is fundamental to dream it for yourself, rather than responding to expectations and motivations that are not your own. This is where the intimate origin of the project takes on its full meaning: rooted in the depths of each enthusiast, experienced or not, it gives him the inner power to take this step between dream and action. The time spent in the middle of these natural cathedrals then stretches.

The most beautiful of adventure stories will never replace the experience of intense interaction with nature and it's never too late to take the plunge. A homelessness project driven by the power of a dream makes it an initiatory journey. What we keep in ourselves when descending is an infinitely precious good and the associated personal benefit is not necessarily proportional to the level of commitment.

If by these few lines, we can give you the confidence and the desire to rekindle old dreams whatever they are and to transform them into projects, then - whatever one may say - this end of the year will be the one of the moment.
